I'm about to take my CPC exam for the first time in 3 weeks . I took a fast pace course which lasted 3 months since then I've been studying on my own.QUESTION:What should I focus on more in my studies and what not to ignore ?

I would tell you to make sure you understand your guidelines and pay attention to the questions and look for key words, like always, never etc. As you are well aware there is always an exception in coding except E codes can NEVER be first. LOL Really I feel the more you practice the better you will be. I would purchase the online coding exam for CPC, at the least one, and keep doing it until you feel comfortable with how to pick the correct answers. Remember to think about your time it takes to answer each question. If you have the study CPC exam on line it will also time how long it takes you to complete. I wish good luck. Remember if you know how to use your books the answers for the exam can be found. :)
 
I recently took my CPC this past June. The test is very focused on ICD 9 & CPT coding, with very little about medical terminology, CMS information, etc. I made sure to know all the dates, guidelines and history of CMS and I think there may have been one question on the test. I would recommend that you use tabs on both books as it will help you get to that specific section quicker. You are given 5 hours and 40 minutes to take the test but believe me, that time flies. Also, try and take a quick break and leave your test area for a few minutes during your exam. I think it helps you regenerate a bit.

Definitely focus on eliminating the wrong answers first. This will narrow down your search for the correct answer. Remember, you don't have to complete the exam in any particular order. Focus on the sections you are most comfortable with so you can complete them quickly. Take Post-It tabs with you to tab any pages you have not completed so you can go back and do them. Tiime management is key, and, of course, knowing how to use your books. Best of luck!

Guidelines and the parenthetical notes listed with certain codes will be a tremendous help to you. Take as many (variety) practice exams as you can you have a little over 2 minutes for each question. Answer the simpler questions first then save the longer reports for last and pick out the key terms in those. Don't spend to much time over thinking one question eliminate the obvious two and pay attention to modifiers, ICD -9 and sequencing to help you choose between codes

Final exam

I took an online 9 month course for this but graduated in Dec last year and really need to get the test taken before to much time lapse. But I def need to study for it before I do. Is it multiple choice on paper or done on the computer?
