In CPT code 92943 (new 2013), does the term "chronic total occlusion" mean the same as recurrent? Why would a coder use this code instead of 92920-92933? Thanks!

When PCI is performed on a patient with chronic total occlusion, use 92943, 92944.

The Definition of CTO is" no antegrade flow through the true lumen"

more evidence of a CTO is antegrade bridging collaterals, calcification at the occlusion site, and no AMI attributed to the lesion. Dont really know about the recurrent question mean the same as chronic. I think you need to look for some of these descritpions in order to use the CTO cpt. Recurrent to me isnt enough.
