Our PA saw a new patient in the hospital for a consult, as our MD was on call for the hospital. The MD signed the note, but only the PA saw the patient. My office wants to bill this as the MD attending and PA performing. I thought it should be billed as PA attending and performing. Can anyone verify what is correct? Thank you!

This cannot be billed under the MD if (s)he did not see the patient. Would have to be billed under the PA.

I agree. 'Incident to' billing is not allowed in the hospital setting. It could only be billed that way if the MD also saw the patient and documented having done a portion of the E&M consult, in which case it could be billed under the MD as a shared visit.
