I have a pt that was seen in the ED had to have a shoulder and femur reduction and was administrator conscious sedation. Later on while still in the ER the shoulder had to be reduce again by a different provider and a different provider administrator the sedation. I know how to code for the E&M, reductions but i'm not sure how to code for multiple sedation for different providers.

So they were reduced with moderate sedation and the shoulder re-dislocated while still in the ED?

Coding for 2 MCS procedures

I had this same scenario not too long ago. If a different provider is performing the MCS during the ortho treatments, then you would report 2 units of 99156. The MUE table on 99156 is 2 units. The MUE has what is called an MUE Adjudication Indicator that is equal to 3. This basically means that more than 2 units will be allowed by CMS/Medicare as long as there is supporting documentation for the units. On the facility side of coding, this code is packaged into the procedure, so we really do not get any financial gain from this code, but it does need to be reported when documentation supports it.
