I am re-learning rad onc and need some help with a code. My providers sometimes do a deep inspriation breath hold bor breast cancer patients in for treatment. I cannot find this code anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find the code or happen to know off the top of their head what it is? Any assistance you an provide I would truly appreciate.

Radiation Oncology Breath Hold Code

The code for the breath hold is +77293 Motion Study. This is add on code that goes with the Isodose Plan.

For coaching someone with breathing or a breath hold is not a billable service.

the add on code 77293, is used when the patient is being simulated, its a different way of capturing the data. It is a separately documented service. Order, medical necessity, and a procedure note, it is then billed on the DOS when the plan was developed.

I agree that 77293 is the appropriate add-on code when this is performed at simulation, add-on code to the planning code (77295, 77301, etc). This is from 2016 but they may have updated 2017 guidelines as well. We use this code frequently and it is appropriate to the service rendered.

Radiation Oncology Breath Hold Code

You may want to be careful about assigning +77293 for deep inspiration breath hold studies. The CT scan performed may not meet the criteria - it may not be a 4D motion study. The physician may not need to "coach" or observe the breathing pattern. +77293 has an extensive description of work.
