I received a denial from Aetna for billing 80300. I realize CMS does not recognize this code and the codes are now based on presumptive(G0477-G0479) and definitive testing(G0480-G0483)....My question is ..aren't G codes only for Medicare? How do we bill commercial insurances for drug screens?

G-Codes

Hello,

I'm in the same boat, as newer to the billing world. I was told by a Aetna representative to use the G-Codes. My office actually uses the G-Codes for all the big commercial payers excluding BCBS and Wellspring. Hopefully, we will get some good feedback on this!

G codes are created by Medicare but they are not limited to use for medicare. Many payers accept G codes and in some cases like with the drug screens require its use.

I'm actually finding that MOST of the big payers want the G codes rather than the 803xx codes. Don't be afraid to use them for commercial payers. Like CodingKing says, they are only created by Medicare, but can be used by anyone.

MCR Replacements

Should the facility side billing bill the G0480-G0483, or 80307(example) the same to the Medicare replacements or is this specific to the payer contract? I trying to verify if the G codes should be billed to Medicare replacements? TIA

same issue...

yes, I got the same issue of rejection can someone clarify more specifically?

Can we bill 80307 and G0483 on the same DOS , with all commercial and Medicare payers?

Only if medically necessary to do both. I saw your other post. They should not be ordering both on every patient. if they are negative on 80307, additional confirmation is not medically necessary.
