If you send a patient to the ER are they still responsible for the office visit copay?

If a billable service was performed for the patient at the office then yes, the patient would be responsible for their share of that service. However, most practices I've worked with, as a courtesy, will make it a no-charge visit if they have to send the patient to the ER if the patient's condition was beyond the office's capability to treat at that visit.

I agreed w/ Thomas and my office we do the same thing, no-charge pt if sent to ER. We only bill for EKG if done (very rare), but anything else, fee is waived.
