Hello,

Just wondering if a doctor performs a transvag, transabdominal, and a doppler for suspected retained POC if those would be considered ob or non ob. He never gave a definitive diagnosis of retained POC and since a doppler is obstetrical I assume I should code the ultrasound as obstetric to since this also might cause a denial have services done at the same time that indicate both obstetric and non obstetric.

Thank you

Hi, per CPT assistant if the indications for the ultrasound are pregnancy related, including signs and symptoms of pregnancy, the OB code should be used, even if the outcome is that the patient is not pregnant.
