I am trying to find information about how to document when the APP or NP see's the patient let's say 11pm at night then the attending comes in the next morning and see's the patient. the attending will then either attest the NP's note or do their own note separately, and we bill the initial admit or consult dos on the date the attending saw the patient. I can't find any direction on how best to document this scenario. We recently had a denial, the provider attested the NP's note and noted that they saw the patient the next day, but the denial was upheld even with good documentation. So I am confused. I have the opportunity to educate my providers but I can't educate them when I myself can't find the information....Ugh..... after hours of searching...

Hi, are you trying to report the NP's visit under physican's NPI as split/shared?

No, I billed the 99223 under the attending on the dos that attending saw the patient, NOT as a split/shared with the FS modifier. Should I bill as split/shared? I felt this didn't apply since the pt was seen different dos technically.
