Hi everyone,

Has anyone recently been certified with the CPCO? How was the exam? I’m planning to sit for it in May and would really appreciate any tips or things I should know.

Thank you,
Shaily

I took the CPCO test about a year and a half ago. It's not open book, but they say they provide some resources during the test that you can use to help answer the questions, however, I didn't find the provided resources to be helpful at all, so don't rely on them. I also took mine remotely, in my home, not at a testing center. The examiner was very thorough in having me use my camera to scan the room, even making me move boxes from under my desk so they were out of reach from where I was sitting. I powered through and finished my test in about 3 and half hours without a break, because I didn't want to have to go through the process of them checking/scanning my office again.

Hi Michelle- Im crossing my fingers for you. I know this test is not easy and not being able to use a resource is scary. I'm really nervous for this one and I just started the course. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Make sure you study the study guide from cover to cover and the practice exam too. I took it Saturday and missed it by one point. I called AAPC and they said there is only one practice exam. I read the 91 page reference that they offer in the exam. I also printed off and read the other two references. I am happy to have a study partner too if you want to study together.

Did you take the practice exam? I have heard, many questions are very similar to that exam. Is it true?

Yes, but the practice exam is just to familiarize you with the format of the exam. There were questions on the exam that I have never seen that is why it is important to read the study guide and make sure you know all of the questions from the 14 chapters of the study guide. There are like 70 of those. Know the practice exam questions and most importantly, know how to use the references inside the test. There are no books allowed and you can only use the references inside the exam. I have been practicing using the references inside the practice exam and am not sure if I am searching correctly because alot of times I cannot find anything. If you have any tips on using the references, let me know.

What resources did you bring with you in the exam? Did it help?
You aren't allowed to provide your own resources, just you and your brain. The instructions for the exam indicated that some resources will be provided as part of the exam (PDFs available for certain questions), but I didn't find them to be helpful at all, so I wouldn't rely on those.
