There is some controversy surrounding the appropriate ICD-10 code to report when a patient presents to the ED from a nursing home after the patient reportedly pulled their G-tube out. The G-tube was placed earlier in the day by another facility. The ED physician documented in the PE: dislodged G-tube. Final Dx: dislodged G-tube. Procedure: replaced G-tube
What is the appropriate diagnosis code to report? T85.525A-displacement of gastrointestinal prosthetic devices, implants and grafts, initial encounter, K94.23-Gastrostomy malfunction or Z43.1-encounter for attention to gastrostomy.
