Hoping someone could help with the following question as I could not specifically find something in writing on how to bill. Code 0241U is for the new Cepheid-Xpress test:

0241U Infectious disease (viral respiratory tract infection), pathogen-specific RNA, 4 targets (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 [SARS-CoV-2], influenza A, influenza B, respiratory syncytial virus [RSV]), upper respiratory specimen, each pathogen reported as detected or not detected

Should this code be billed with one unit for all four pathogens or should it be billed by more units depending on the provider’s intent? 1, 2, 3 or 4 units as it applies to the patient visit with documentation supporting the detection per pathogen? (0241U x 1 unit or 0241U x 4 units)

My interpretation is to bill four (4) units because the description says "EACH Pathogen". Although, this was to mirror code 87637 that encompasses all four tests, the code description is clearly different from 0241U.

Thank you in advance..
