This may sound like a strange question....we had a physician leave one of our clinics and we have a locum physician who replaced her. We will follow CMS criteria and only bill for up to 60 days. Now we have another physician leaving the practice and we want to use the same locum to cover this physician's patients.

I have read the CMS criteria for locums again and I find nothing that says you can't use the same locum for two physicians. Can we do this?

I can't find anything that would prohibit this from being possible. We had a similar situation where a locum was covering for two different clinics at the same time, I happened to have been coding for both. Talk about confusing the coder.

But we couldn't find a reason why it couldn't happen.
