How do I (if I can) bill when two of our physicians saw the same patient in our office on the same day? It is an Ophthalmologist office and one is a retina specilist, and the other is a general ophthalmologist? I get so confused with this! They are under the same tax id.

You may not get paid, i have a general ortho and a spine specialist and Medicare won't pay for the second visit. You just bill out the two office visits, there is no modifier that I am aware of that can be used.

If Medicare recognizes them as different specialties (different taxonomy codes) then you should get paid. Check to see how they were credentialed. We have an EP specialist in our office and since he is recognized as a different speciality by Medicare than our cardiologist, his claims get paid even if the patient sees another cardiologist on the same day. Hope this helps!
