Since consultation codes have been deleted for 2010, I have questions about office patients. Everything I have seen seems to only address patients who are new to the practice or imply that we would always code a new patient visit. What about established patients who are sent back to us by a physician for an opinion or advice on a new problem? Surely we would not use a new patient code for those patients and yet it seems unfair that we would only use an established patient e/m code for them. Does anyone have any ideas about this?
