Are current 2014 CPT and ICD-9 books required by law to be on the desk of the Biller or Coder? Our Manager has not ordered our books for 2014 yet and I'm concerned because I've been told it's unlawful not to have the current year's books in the office. Any insight you could lend would be appreciated.

you need current code sets which does necessarily mean current year. The 2012 ICD-9 CM is the current diagnosis code set, The 2014 CPT is the current procedure code set. So you do not need to purchase an ICD-9 CM as lonf=g as you have a 2012 version but you do need the 2014 CPT.
