When we must separate the OB package and the patient had 1-3 visits and we are directed to bill as an E/M code.
I am trying to figure out how to "carve" out the LOS.
As you know, most normal OB visits last maybe 5 minutes, which would not qualify for a 99212 due to time.

Any suggestions?
 
You don't have to code based on time. You may code based on MDM. For outpatient 2021, it is either total clinician time day of encounter (not just face to face time), or MDM. Assuming the clinician does at least some basic documentation, you should be able to get at least 99212.
PS - if the time was not documented, you cannot bill based on time anyway.
