Does anyone have information on where suicide watch and open-door seclusion fall in the Risk column of the MDM table under the 2021 outpatient E/M guidelines? On our old auditing tools (1997 guidelines), we had open-door seclusion under Moderate risk and suicide watch under High risk. Would the same hold true for the 2021 guidelines?
In other words, if a patient with 1 or more chronic illnesses with severe exacerbation has active/current suicidal ideation and is placed on suicide watch, can we code a 99215?
If a patient with 1 or more chronic illnesses with exacerbation is placed on close watch (open-door seclusion), but medications are not managed/changed, can we code a 99214?
Thanks for any input!
