Has anyone found the proper modifier to bill this midline ligament injection? We have been getting rejections and denials (mainly from UHC) stating anatomical modifier may be required - Smartedits.
Procedure Description Sacrococcygeal ligament injection:
After informed consent was obtained, the patient was placed on the x-ray table and the back and sacral region was prepared and draped in the normal sterile manner. 3ml of 1% Lidocaine was injected for local anesthesia. A 25g spinal needle was advanced using ultrasound guidance to the sacrococcygeal ligament. After negative aspiration, Depomedrol 20mg and 2cc of 0.25% Bupivacaine was injected in the region of the sacrococcygeal ligament after confirmation of needle placement using ultrasound guidance. No immediate complications were encountered and the patient tolerated her procedure well.
