Hi - I'm getting conflicting information that this should only be a quantity of 1. Would this be a quantity of 2 for 20550? I see there is a MUE of 5 is allowed.

Ligament/tendons and Nerves: iliolumbar and sacroiliac ligament
Using sterile technique, a 27 gauge 1 1/2 inch needle was advanced slowly until the periligamentous and tendinous region and 0.5 milliliters of a combination of 5 ml 1% Lidocaine and 3ml of 0.5% bupivicaine was injected in the peritendinous and ligamentous region.

With this description, you’d only bill once.

If the provider clearly described two separate injections or advancing the needle separately into two separate and distinct regions, you might have sufficient documentation to justify a second iteration.

Never hurts to let your provider know that their failure of documentation is leading to decreased reimbursement.

Hello - in your opinion, does it seem that the documentation was insufficient and that it possibly would be 20550 x 2 if the provider added that info? Meaning, in high probability? I'm very unfamiliar with this code, anatomically speaking despite research.
