We use Ingenix Encoder Pro.com for the "Lay Description" of procedures and these two are very similar in wording so I'm not sure which is the more appropriate code to submit.

Patient had a guillotine amputation above the ankle on 9/1. Return to surgery 4 days later to finalize amputation. It's obviously a staged procedure (Mod 58) since you can't leave the amputation site open, but which code should be submitted for the second case?

Please help!

I would say 27884 is for the final closure and they do not leave it open.
And in 27886 they may close it or may be temporarily left open.
Other than that they do have very similar wording in my coders desk reference.
