has anyone gotten paid on 29868 (meniscal transplant)? my doc performed one and BC/BS considers it experimental.

Any input would be appreciated.

I never billed that code before; however, when insurances deny codes as experimental, I referred back to the instructions of Category III vs Category I codes as per Karen Zupko at the Ortho seminar and the appeals do work by using the description.

In the description: For Category I codes, the Panel requests that the service/procedure be performed by many health care professionals in clinical practice in multiple locations and that FDA approval, as appropriate, has already been received.

This should help,

IDK if this helps or not, but I have paperwork on 29868 put out by AAOS and it states that 29868 cannot be billed with 29870, 29871, 29875, 29880, 29883or 29884 at the same session. I have not had one though.
