HI, my doc is wanting to bill 3 units of 29877 on one knee. Is this even payable?? For some reason this seems extremely odd to me. The operative report does state 3 portals being used during surgery. Any responses are appreciated thanks so much!!!

Report chondroplasty (29877) just once per joint: AAOS again restates its longstanding policy that debridement of articular cartilage (chondroplasty) is bundled when performed in the same knee compartment as a meniscal repair or excision. Further, 29877 can only be reported once per knee. (This is also supported in the August 2001 CPT Assistant.)

Hopefully this helps! AAOS.org is an awesome website.
