I have a patient my Dr Removed infected defibrillator and leads. he then gives me a charge of 33207 in the body of his report he states he used an old PM generator that still had plenty of life left and he does give me the serial # of new permanent pacing wire. No mention of where the generator came from. He did not implant the generator but taped it to the patient's neck. I talked with MD. And asked him if he had a spare generator in his pocket. He said the Rep. had the generator it had been opened for another pt. but was not used and since it wasn't implanted it didn't have to be sterile.
So what code would I use 33207-52 since it was not implanted???

agree, 33207 is not appropriate since a pocket was not made for the generator and it was not implanted subcutaneously. sounds like a temp pacer to keep the heart pacing until the infection is gone and a new permanent pacemaker can be implanted.
