Question, if you look at code 427.5 it has the 1 in front of it and at the bottom of the page it states 1 mcc=only if patient is discharged alive. Can this dx only be used if pt was discharged alive. Is there guiedlines for this 1 in front of the code.

the number 1 is a footnote..the explanation for the number 1 footnote in front of the code is found in the front of the CPT book under "Additional Conventions"... scan through till you reach "FOOTNOTES"... start there. you'll find your answer :)
(basically, it's concerning a MCC and DRG's can be affected)
