When you enter a charge for bilateral procedures on a Medicare patient, do you charge the usual amount for one line, or do you double the charge amount?

For example:
64635 x1 unit = $1500
64635-50 --> would this be charged as $1500 or $3000?

(I am coding for a facility, in case that makes a difference)

Thanks,
Tracy

You would not charge double, the bilateral modifier is only subject to 150% of charge. So, in this case you would only charge $2250.00. Hope this helps.
