if a patient receives 2 (or more) bags of 500ml hydration, can we add these together and charge/code for hydration?

You must have start and stop times documented and medical necessity for hydration. IV fluids running at a keep open rate is not hydration. running a fluid for the convenience of administering IV drugs is not hydration. You charge hydration based on time and add the code for the fluids amount of fluids used. If no time is documented then the administration cannot be billed.

Hello,

Document must and should have start and stop time to code hydration.
If less than 30 min we can’t code hydration.

96360 Intravenous infusion, hydration; initial, 31 minutes to 1 hour
96361 Intravenous infusion, hydration; each additional hour (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)
