Would 51702 be the appropriate code to use for an uncomplicated exchange of a Foley catheter into an ACE stoma or would 51703 fit better since it is through "altered anatomy?" I am not certain if "altered anatomy" applies to the stoma.

Thank you,

Hey Jolene,

What is an ACE stoma? Is it an Superpubic cath? Could you be more specific. I haven't heard of one of those.

Figured out an answer

Just in case anyone else is wondering about this, I did hear an answer from a urology coder today. A stoma in this case would not be considered "altered anatomy." The provider is able to do this exchange of the Foley easily and has no complications with it. The code that I need to be using is 51702.
