Hello everyone,
I have a question. I have been doing coding for 6 years at a provider office. We used 59 modifiers for all insurances.
I have since merged to a facilty location and we had training yesterday on 59 modifiers. This location is only using 59 modifiers for medicare and medicare advantage programs. I inquired about other insurances needing 59 modifiers but was told this was a medicare and medicare advantage modifier only.
I do not think this is correct. Can someone help me?

I use the 59 modifier on all insurance's

Modifier 59 should be used if appropriate regardless of the insurance - and if the payor doesn't follow Medicare they will soon enough anyway.
