A cardiologist in my practice reads electrocardiograms for the local hospital. We use CPT 93010 to bill for these. On occassion, there will be a patient who perhaps comes in for chest pain. An initial ECG will be performed. Later in the day if the patient is admitted, has other symptoms, etc, another ECG will be performed. When we run across this, should we use a modifier 59 or 76. I know its the same code on the same day by the same physician, but its also not necessarily just repeating the same procedure for the same reason, so we're a little confused. Any input would be appreciated!
