A patient had a displaced 5th met fx. The doc performed an ORIF on it. So the fx is no longer displaced. Do we still use a displaced code or should we now code as nondisplaced?

the fx was a displaced fracture when it was treated with active treat. now you are providing the subsequent care for what was a displaced fracture. You use the original fracture type thru the life of the fracture encounters. You just apply the correct 7th character for the encounter.
