Hi

I have 2 pt's being seen for a 6 month f/u DM evaluation. On their previous visit they both had a vision eye exam done 92014. The optometrist is coding these as 99212's.


My question is how are your providers coding these and how would I determine the level?
 
As with any of the E/M codes, the code you use is determined by level of history, exam and MDM.

What I've found when I've done records audits for ODs for these types of visits, they often bill a 99212 but, in fact have done the work for a 99213 and are therefore under coding and not being paid for what they've done.
