Final diagnosis states - "Placental tissue showing immature chorionic villi, necrosis, degenerative changes and inflammation". Specimen is "Product of Conception"

Which Dx would be appropriate 658.41 or 631 or any other specific diagnosis available....

Any input would be appreciated....

Thanks in advance!

This isn't a mole so that rules out 631.

You say the specimen is product of conception. What are you assigning this in CPT nomenclature. That should point us in the right direction. Missed AB, spontaneous AB, induced?

I am going to read between the lines and guess that if this was an "inevitable AB" it was induced before the abortion actually happened. I would use the dx code for induced abortion and code the specimen 88304 if this is the case.

I hope this helps.
