When doing 72 hr holters we bill 0295t. Our billing department is saying that is incorrect because the patient actually has 2 encounters. The first encounter is a 48hr holter then they come back and do a 24hr. Any thoughts. Thanks!

When this situation occurs in our cardiology clinic, they will decided to do a spectocore monitor, 93228, and set it up for 30 days instead. This also is more convenient for the patient, since they only have the 1 hook up. Then if they want to cancel it sooner, they can. They do not perform tandom holters. Technically, the service that you're providing should be 93224 x2, each reported on the appropriate separate DOS, so both of the hook ups are covered, however, I'm not sure how carriers would pay that. I hope this helps.
