OVER THINKING??? THE DESCRIPTION OF CPT 72220 IS X-RAY OF SACRUM AND COCCYX, MINIMUM OF 2 VIEWS.

NOW TO ME IT CAN ONLY BE BILLED ONCE WHICH IS STATED IN THE [INCLUDES] NOTES IN THE BOOK.

SITUATION:
SELF PAY PATIENT
MY RADIOLOGIST IS TRYING TO TELL ME TO BILL IT TWICE BC ITS TWO DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BODY AND EACH WAS VIEWED TWICE.
HENCE TOTAL OF 4.

It has no indented options for more than 2 views like, for example, 72040 has a different code for 4-5 and for 6+. So I'd say that given 72220 is minimum 2 views you wouldn't need to bill more than once. As it states no maximum views. And it's Sacrum AND coccyx. Had it been or I'd agree with him. But then there would be another code instead.

So how many times does he want you to bill a chest x-ray? That has lungs, cervical spine, thoracic spine, part of the lumbar spine, not to mention other body parts like ribs....
