Hi,

Please confirm if the below document is sufficient for coding ultrasound guidance access - 76937

Following informed consent obtained from the patient, the left neck was prepped and draped in a sterile manner using chlorhexidine. The Sonosite bedside ultrasound was used under sterile condition to visualize the left internal jugular vein. Once the vein was visualized, the overlying skin and soft tissue was anesthetized with 5ml of 1% lidocaine. The finder needle was then used and under direct ultrasound guidance, inserted into the left internal jugular vein. A 20 cm triple lumen Mahurkar hemodialysis catheter was then advanced over the wire via seldinger technique. Two 3-D synthetic sutures were used to secure the catheter. A sterile dressing was then applied. Sterile saline was used to flush the catheters. There was no complications.

Chest x-ray demonstrated bilateral pulmonary edema and pleural effusion. The left internal jugular catheter was in adequate position at the right atrial-superior vena caval junction.

Impression
Ultrasound guided placement of left internal jugular central venous hemodialysis catheter placement.

Thanks,
Indira

Yes the code is correct as per the Central Venous Access Procedures guidelines which says "When imaging is used for these procedures, either for gaining access to the venous entry site or for manipulating the cathetre into the catheter into final central position, use 76937, 77001"

Thanks
