BCBS denied 80414 (Chorionic gonadotropin stimulation panel; testosterone response) for a male patient stating it is a lab for females only. I cannot find anything in the ICD-9 book or online that specifically states that it a female test only. Any help please? I want to appeal if I can and I would like some literature to back it up. Thanks!!!

It isn't gender specific. We are seeing a huge increase in errors in denials, especially with BCBS. I suspect the sudden influx of new members due to Obamacare has had an impact on their claims processing dept. I'd call and get clarification on the denial.
