HI,

Urologist performed biopsy 55700, bills 88305-TC, then Lab/Pathologist bills 88305. Is the urologist allowed to bill 88305? all he did was obtained the biopsies and sent them to the lab for processing....

The technical component of 88305 involves the preparation of the specimen for pathological diagnosis. In the unlikely event that the urologist measured and described the specimen from a pathological viewpoint, set it in paraffin, and prepared the slides, he or she could bill the technical component. I.E: the pathologist received slides rather than a specimen.

If the urologist removed the biopsy and sent it in formalin to the lab with a requisition for further processing, there is no charge for that. It's included in the 55700.

Aside from Moh's surgery, surgeons rarely perform their own pathology.
