Good morning, all -
I'm having trouble understanding the difference between these two codes; I see where it states that 95867 is "Needle electromyography; cranial nerve supplied muscle, unilateral" and 95920 is "Intraoperative neurophysiology testing, per hour". My patient had a NIM tube inserted during her total thyroidectomy. I'm missing where there's a difference in the two codes, other than the fact that one has units billed by the hour. Is the 95867 the placing of the NIM tube? Any help would be welcomed with great relief!

Thanks,
S.

95867 is the stimulating & recording of the nerves during the procedure, 95920 is the add-on code to report the electrophysiologic monitoring to see what effect the procedure is having on those nerves. Hope this helps!
