The PT that I code for says that when she uses ultrasound on a patient, it is only for a max of 5-6 min. According to the CPT book, this code is billed in 15 min increments. Can she charge for the set-up time, which may bring her up to 15 min, and thus charge 1 unit of US?

Thanks,
Sara Faltinson

I don't believe set up time is included. I don't know if this varies by state or is a CMS guideline, but we can't bill unless there is a minimum of 8 minutes. So, for:

Unit Time
1 8-22 mintues
2 23-37 mintues
3 38-53 minutes

etc.

I am in Oregon
