Wiki 97597 vs 11042

When our providers do a debridement we are having some confusion on when we bill out 97597 vs 11042. Is 97597 only used when necrotic tissue is removed and 11042 is used if there is no necrotic tissue. Or does it have to do with the depth of the debridement?

CPT 11042 is down to subq layer. Selective Debridement (97597 and 97598) only includes the epidermis and dermis layers.
