Does anyone who is billing for wound care, know if there is a limit to the number of units you can bill to Medicare for the 97598 debridement code? There is a patient that has an area over 900 cm's which is well over 40 units, but I don't want to bill the units if they are just going to get denied. I've researched and can't find any limit. Anyone with thoughts, past experience or help is greatly appreciated.

900 square cm? This is an enormous area so first be absolutely certain this is correct that is about 18 inches X18 inches. if it is correct then you may need to either bill multiple lines as suggested above or appeal for an exception or bill the max of 4 units and apply the 22 modifier.
