In the 2017 CPT book, the education codes 98960, 98961 and 98962 have a star next to them indicating telemedicine. These are face to face training sessions. Is that a typo? I was told to use 98960 for diabetes and lactation training performed in the clinic.

Telemedicine

The telemedicine star indicates that this service qualifies to be billed as a telemedicine service if performed via audio and video conferencing. You can bill this service with modifier 95 or GT depending on the patient's insurance. All of the other rules for telemedicine apply (distance site, originating site, etc).

Thanks,
Jonique Dietzen, CPC, Project Manager
