We have a new provider that we recently started billing for and he is wanting us to bill a 99211 when the pt comes in for a blood draw. Of course we can't bill the 99211 for just the blood draw, but they are taking pt's vitals also. I think he is doing that so that he can bill for the 99211. We in the office don't feel like it's appropriate to bill for the 99211 but is he allowed to? We want to guide him in the right direction.

99211

It must be medically necessary to bill that visit, after all there is a co-pay involved. If you can go online and look up Medicar Part B News Issue 201 there is an article about just this topic-appropriate billing with examples.
