At an Opthalmologist/Optometry practice, whenever a patient returns to have measurements done for the 2nd Cataract removal (additional testing,h&p,choosing a replacement lens, approximately 20 minutes ), a tech has been charging a 99212 billed under the non-present Opthalmogist. An optrometist is the supervising provider. Where is it written that this can't be billed as such?
 
The Tech visit should be billed as 99211 - this code is for techs, nurses, and medical assistants. Techs, MA's and Nurses cant bill incident to codes.

I agree with Shareen the tech should bill a 99211. If you look in your cpt book under 99211 it states for the evaluation and management of an established patient, that may not require the presence of a physician.
