I have a physician wanting us to bill 99235.

1. Do you have to be the admitting or discharging physician to bill this code?

My example I do not believe we can bill 99235 since different calendar days.

Pt was admitted by an internal medicine dr on 10/2/23. We consulted (neurology) on 10/3/23. Pt was discharged by internal med on 10/3/23.

Hi there, no one would report the admit/charge code in your scenario. The neurologist would report an initial hospital code.

That was my conclusion as well, but what if ER admitted pt, we consulted, then pt was discharged would we will the admit/discharge code or would to discharging physician?
I recommend reading the full descriptor and guideline for the admit/discharge codes. A practitioner has to do both parts of the service on the same calendar date. If the ER doctor who admitted the patient also did the discharge, they would report it.
