Are there any multi-specialty groups billing 99451/99452 from the peri-operative department? Our current workflow --After a patient's chart is sent from the surgeon's office, a registered nurse does a complete health history and medication review and provides preoperative instructions. Upon the completion of the nurse interview, the chart is electronically sent to the nurse practitioners for review. The nurse practitioners then review the chart along with any testing results that already exist. They then order tests as indicated, provide education as indicated, and consult other providers and anesthesia as indicated. The documentation is primarily found in the OPS Intake Assessment Form and the PAT documentation consisting of general preoperative instructions and preoperative medication instructions specifically. The medication lists and problem lists are also reconciled.
We are not currently billing for the function of the APP, I'm just doing research and wondering if anyone has looked into billing for their APPs services with the codes 99451/99452? I understand the consent requirement and am trying to determine if we're meeting the requirements of the codes. 99451 would be when our APP determines surgery is appropriate. 99452 would be billed by our group when we request the opinion of a cardiologist.
If anyone is currently billing similar services, are you having any luck with reimbursement?
Thanks!
