I am trying to determine the best way to code this scenario. The patient had 2 IVC filters placed, via 2 separate cath placements. Should I code the filter 37620 as 2 units, or separate lines with a -59 modifier?
Body of the note states:
"....utilized an ultrasound, evaluated her internal jugular, placed a wire under direct ultrasound visualization. We placed a wire down into the inferior vena cava and performed a cavogram and deployed our filter...... With the popliteal vein accessed, we performed a venogram. At this point, we realized she had a duplicated system and, for this reason, we placed a second caval filter in the duplicated cava."
Thanks for any input.
Michelle
