Is anyone familiar with coding for a Medicare member having screening Aortic Anyeursm Ultrasound. Member is a male, has a hx of smoking over 20 years, and is 66 years old?

Thank you.

Hi carolr3,
Yes, I get to review claim rejections/warnings occassionally due to not providing a diagnosis code that meets medical necessity.
Without additional information I'm completely unsure what procedure code we are billing or the diagnosis code(s) provided or the findings.
By chance have you checked this link? https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/abdominal-aortic-aneurysm-screenings
Personal history of tobacco dependence per our ICD 10 book states Z87.891.
Hopefully this sheds some light on your coding woes.
Thanks for listening & have a great evening,

Hi Dana,
This is a screening ultrasound that Medicare reimburses to male members, one time only, who are over 65-75 with a long history of smoking. The procedure is to evaluate for Aortic Anyeursm by checking blood flow in the aorta. I thinking 76706 with the ICD-10 code as you suggested, Z87.891?
The other codes, 76770, 76775, 93978, and 93979 are not for screening according to what I have read.
If you have a chance just let me know if you agree.
Thank you!
