When billing ABA therapy codes 96150 - 96155, how should the total number of units be calculated? For example: Their time documented throughout the day would be 8 minutes on and then 8 minutes off sometimes all day. It is documented that the RBT or BCBA spent 120 minutes total (8 units) for the day but they billed for 15 units because they billed a unit every time they hit 8 minutes. Shouldn’t they take the total time documented for each 8 minute session throughout each date of service and divide it by 15 in order to bill the correct number of units to bill? This question is specific for IN Medicaid but any references/resources would be welcome!
